Hello and welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Book Club!
My name is Zita. I created this club for my dear friend, Barbara and her sweet sister Beck after I learned that they had decided to reread all of the Little House on the Prairie books! I have fond memories reading those books under a big pine tree in our back yard when I was a little girl. Later I would sit mesmerized in front of the television, transported back in time and into my imagination as the stories came to life in the Little House on the Prairie television series.
A little about Laura Ingalls Wilder:
She was "an American writer, most notably the author of the Little House series of children's novels based on her childhood in a pioneer family. She was born in 02/07/1867 in Pepin, WI. She died 02/10/1957 in Mansfield, MO. She was married to Almanzo Wilder." (Wikipedia)
And about me: I am 52 years old. My daughter, Taylor is 24. She is getting married in less than two months. My son, Andrew is 21 and has finally found full time employment. I am a piano teacher and church pianist. My life is finally quieting down after raising two wonderful human beings on my own. It was a struggle, but we made it! And now that the dust is clearing, I am finding myself again!
My own mother, Blanche was raised on a farm with three siblings. Her mother, Ann a widow raised her children alone, but with the help of her sister Beatrice in a small Czech community in central Texas at the beginning of World War II. My mother Blanche also read Little House books and some of her stories growing up on a farm are so similar to Laura and Mary's that I sometimes get them confused!
I am so glad we are reading these books again. I admire the people from that generation that worked so hard, and survived with so little. But with such pride, love and apparent joy. Our generation could certainly learn from them!
Peace,
Zita
P.S. This is a picture of me! The picture of the lovely young couple you see as my Blogger profile are my daughter, Taylor and her fiance Mike. I created a wedding blog for them under my blogger account. :)
